Small flashlight mount

I had a sea hornet that I attached a mini q40 uk light onto the end. It looked kind of wierd at first and my friends made fun of me but after the first dive with it they all were digging it. It enabled me to put the end of my gun into a possibly eel infested hole instead of my hand and it gave me much greater reach… Plus if anything swims by the light that you want it is yours without the fumble and before it is spooked. I used the strap holder which is 9.95 at leisurepro.com and I burned 2 holes in it with a hot nail. then a 2 washers, 2 screws, and drill and it is that easy. I mounted it on the right side of the gun so it would not interfere with my line of sight. The other plus is that you now do not have to carry it which is sometimes annoying because all of the gear can add up quick…

here is the adapter link so you can see what it looks like.

Camera mount for Rob Allen

This post started out as an “Ask the Experts” question, but I thought it would be great to continue any discussion here.

Original Question:

I have a Rob Allen 90cm Railgun and would like to use a camera hands free. Are there any mounts available to purchase or is this considered a DIY project?

Followup:

Hello,

I submitted a question a few weeks ago for a camera mount. After reading your reply I decided to hit the machine shop (with the help of my father).

The fitment is perfect. We mounted it to the same mounting points where my reel was so no need to drill additional holes.

We used some aluminum scrap metal and shaved it down to make it less rigid. Then we drilled out some of the center to reduce weight and better handling in the water.

Since the camera housing already had a threaded bottom (for a tripod i guess), we used a bolt with an allen head and washer to fit it on. It can be easily removed and seems very sturdy.

I managed to take a few underwater pictures and video in the pool for testing purposes and it looks great! Thought I would share since you asked whatever I fabricated to send your way when done.

Thanks guys!

Thank you quiksilversurfr for the great question and info. We’re glad to hear you were able to build what sounds like a perfect solution. We look forward to seeing a photo of your end result and some underwater video and pics.
